What does Rote collect about you?

Nothing. Rote has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your recordings and your session history are written to storage on your iPhone. There is no Rote server, so Rote never sends them anywhere and never receives them. The only company involved in a purchase is Apple.

What Rote collects

Nothing. No name, no email address, no password, no account. No advertising identifier, no device identifier, no location, no contacts, no usage analytics and no crash reports.

There is no sign-up screen in Rote because there is nothing to sign up to. As of the date at the top of this page, the only network request the app can make is the pack request described below, and that feature is not switched on yet.

Rote uses no AI service. Nothing you record and nothing you type is sent to a model, to a transcription service, or to anyone else.

Where your recordings and your history live

Your recordings and your session history are written to Rote's own folder on your iPhone. Rote has no server. It never sends them anywhere and it never receives them.

One honest detail, because a privacy policy that overclaims is worse than none. If you have iCloud Backup switched on, iOS backs up app folders like Rote's automatically. That backup is between you and Apple, it is covered by Apple's privacy policy, and Rote plays no part in it and cannot read it. You can turn iCloud Backup off in Settings, your name, iCloud, iCloud Backup.

Deleting a recording in Rote deletes the audio file from the device. Deleting the app removes everything Rote stored. A copy can survive in an iCloud backup you already made, until that backup is replaced or deleted.

The microphone

Rote asks for microphone access the first time you tap Record, and never before. If you say no, the rest of the app still works.

What you record is written straight to a file on your iPhone. There is no transcription, no speech recognition and no processing anywhere else.

Subscriptions and Apple

Subscriptions are sold by Apple through in-app purchase. Apple takes the payment. Rote never sees your card, your billing address or your Apple Account details.

Apple tells the app whether an active subscription exists. That is the whole exchange. What Apple collects when you buy something is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

There are no accounts in Rote, so Restore Purchases works against your Apple Account instead of a login.

The paywall is not live yet. When it ships, Rote will use RevenueCat to check that subscription status against your Apple Account. RevenueCat is not in use today, and this page will be updated before it is.

Pack requests

Rote has one feature that sends anything at all. If you use Request a pack, the message you type is posted to playrote.com so it can be read and counted.

Nothing is attached to it. No name, no email address, no account, no device identifier. Please do not type personal information into the box. It is not needed and it is not asked for.

Requests are used for one thing: deciding which pack gets recorded next.

This website

playrote.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts. Nothing here follows you.

The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, to run and protect the service. Those logs are Vercel's, under Vercel's privacy policy, and they are not linked to anything in the app.

The full list of third parties

Apple, for the App Store and in-app purchase. Vercel, for hosting this website. That is the list.

No analytics provider, no advertising network, no AI provider, no email list, no data broker.

Children

Rote is not made for children and is not directed at them. It collects nothing from anyone, so nothing is held about a child either.

Your rights

Privacy law in the EU, the UK and California gives you rights over the personal data a company holds about you: access, correction, deletion, and a copy to take elsewhere. Rote holds none, so there is nothing to access, correct, delete or export.

Your data is in your hands, literally. Delete a recording in the app, or delete the app, and it is gone from the device.

Changes to this policy

The date at the top of this page is the real one. If Rote ever starts collecting something, this page changes before the app does, not after.
